Problem at the River-A girl with a fox ,a goose and a bag of corn wanted to cross a river she could only take one animal or object at a time the fox first,the goose if they were left alone together.if the girl took the fox first the goose would eat the corn . How did the girl get all there safely across the river?

Answers

Answer 1

This is a great riddle to get people thinking, because it's not an obvious answer!

River A, you have: a fox, a goose, and a bag of corn.

So, you've probably gone through this looking for some way to bring one of them over, but if she takes the cornmeal, the fox will eat the goose, if she takes the fox, the goose will eat the corn, and if she takes the goose, then the fox and the cornmeal will be left together (which isn't bad until you have to pick one of them to take over with the goose).

Let's start by picking one of the animals (or objects) to take over first. Because it takes two trips for things to get bad with the goose, will do it first.

We take the goose across river A, and come back to the fox and the cornmeal. Nothing bad has happened. Now we know that if we leave the goose with the fox or the cornmeal, the cornmeal or the goose will be eaten.

There is one other thing we can do! The girl can only take one thing back and forth, but she can bring something back when she takes one of them across!

This means that:

She can take the goose first and the cornmeal second, but when she takes the cormeal, she can grab the goose and bring it back with her, so now the cornmeal is across river A but the goose isn't! Then, she can drop off the gosse and grab the fox, because the fox won't do anything to the cornmeal, and then come back for the goose!

Just ask if you have an questions! :)

Probability:

[tex]p=\dfrac{9\sqrt{3} }{2*16*\pi}=0.15506125....\approx{15.5\%}[/tex]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The height of the triangle is given as 6.5, the base is given as 6, therefore, the area of the triangle is:

[tex]A=\frac{1}{2}(6)(6.5)\\A=19.5[/tex]

The area of the circle is:

[tex]A=\pi(4)^2\\A=16\pi\\A=50.26548[/tex]

Divide the area of the triangle by the area of the circle:

Samira and Sonia each have a bag containing 20 sweets. In each bag, there are 5 red, 6 green and 9 yellow sweets.
(a)
(b)
Samira chooses one sweet at random from her bag.
Write down the probability that she chooses a yellow sweet.
[1] Sonia chooses two sweets at random, without replacement, from her bag.
(i) Show that the probability that she chooses two green sweets is 3 . 38
(ii) Calculate the probability that the sweets she chooses are not both the same colour.

Answers

Step-by-step explanation:

there must be some typos here. but I try to address the right issues.

there is nothing under (a). so, really nothing to answer.

(b)

there are 20 sweets in her bag. 9 if the 20 are yellow.

so, the probability is the ratio of desired possibilities vs. total possibilities.

that is, tada! 9/20

that is the probabilty for Samira to pick a yellow sweet.

[1] (i)

again, 20 sweets to start with.

6 are green.

when she picks the first one, her probability to pick a green one is 6/20 = 3/10 = 0.3

and now, under the assumption that this came true, she picks another sweet.

this time she had only 19 left, and 5 of them are green.

so, this probabilty is 5/19

now both events need to happen for the case we are discussing. there is no overlapping, no ors, ifs and buts. it is just the product of both probabilities.

3/10 × 5/19 = 15/190 = 3/38

I think that is what the description asks for.

(ii)

that probability is

first selection is red and second is not red +

first selection is green and second is not green +

first selection is yellow and second is not yellow

so,

red and not red

5/20 = 1/4 red

15/19 not red (there are still 15 sweets of other colors in the bag, but again now only 19 total).

red and not red = 1/4 × 15/19 = 15/76 = 0.1974

green and not green

6/20 = 3/10 = green

14/19 = not green

green and not green = 3/10 × 14/19 = 52/190 = 26/95 =

= 0.2737

yellow and not yellow

9/20 = yellow

11/19 = not yellow

yellow and not yellow = 9/20 × 11/19 = 99/380 = 0.2606

so, now assuming up all 3 possibilities ("or" = sum) gives us the general possibility of selecting two different colors

The general formula for both secants is the entire length * the external segment.

Using an example, it is 3*(13 + 3) = 3*16

The other secant will be 4*(x + 4)

These two are equal

4(x + 4) = 3 * 16

4(x + 4) = 48                Divide by 4

x + 4 = 12                    Subtract 4 from both sides

x = 8

Second Question

8(x + 8) = 6(6 + 18)

8x + 64 = 6(24)

8x + 64 = 144            Subtract 64

8x = 80                     Divide by 8

x = 80 /8

x = 10

E + D need to equal 180 degrees.

E = 180 - D

E = 180 - 159

E  = 21 degrees

Answer: 21 degrees.

Answer: e = 21°

Step-by-step explanation:

Angle d will be 159° because alternate exterior angles are equal.

Now angle e + angle d = 180 because they form linear pair

e + d = 180

e + 159 = 180

e = 180-159

e = 21

If Pr(Y > 23) = 6 x Pr(Y = 25), show that the value of p is 5/6

Answers

Answer:

I hope my answer helps :)

Step-by-step explanation:

P(Y > 23) = P(Y = 24) + P(Y = 25)

6P(Y=25) = P(Y = 24) + P(Y = 25)

6 = P(Y = 24)/P(Y = 25)+ 1

5 = (²C24××q¹)/C25×p²×q)

Since you know that q = 1 - p,

5 = 25{[p²(1 - p)]/}

1/5 = ( - )/

1/5 = p^(-1) - 1

6/5 = 1/p

p = 5/6 (shown)
