What are the two limitations of earth plates

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The tectonic style and viability of modern plate tectonics in the early Earth is still debated. Field observations and theoretical arguments both in favor and against the uniformitarian view of plate tectonics back until the Archean continue to accumulate. Here, we present the first numerical modeling results that address for a hotter Earth the viability of subduction, one of the main requirements for plate tectonics. A hotter mantle has mainly two effects: 1) viscosity is lower, and 2) more melt is produced, which in a plate tectonic setting will lead to a thicker oceanic crust and harzburgite layer. Although compositional buoyancy resulting from these thick crust and harzburgite might be a serious limitation for subduction initiation, our modeling results show that eclogitization significantly relaxes this limitation for a developed, ongoing subduction process. Furthermore, the lower viscosity leads to more frequent slab breakoff, and sometimes to crustal separation from the mantle lithosphere. Unlike earlier propositions, not compositional buoyancy considerations, but this lithospheric weakness could be the principle limitation to the viability of plate tectonics in a hotter Earth. These results suggest a new explanation for the absence of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism (UHPM) and blueschists in most of the Precambrian: early slabs were not too buoyant, but too weak to provide a mechanism for UHPM and exhumation.

of the following is a step in the process of cloud formation?
A Expansion of cold air

Answer:

C Condensation of water vapor

Explanation:

One of the components of the atmosphere is water vapour. Water vapour is always present in air.

This water vapour may combine with particles of dust and smoke and condense around them to form clouds.

As more water vapour condenses and coalesces, the clouds become thicker and precipitation eventually follows.

The equation of the reaction is;

C7H16(g) + 11O2(g) ---->7CO2(g) + 8H2O(g)

1a) Number of moles in 228 g of H2O = 228 g/18 g/mol = 12.67 moles

From the reaction equation;

11 moles of O2 yields 8 moles of H2O

x moles of O2 yields 12.67 moles of H2O

x = 11 * 12.67/8

x = 17.4 moles of O2

Since 1 mole of O2 occupies 22.4 L

17.4 moles of O2 occupies 17.4 moles * 22.4 L/1 mole = 389.76 L

1b) Molar mass of C7H16 = 100 g/mol

Number of moles in 300 g of C7H16 = 300 g/100g/mol = 3 moles

1 mole of C7H16 yields 7 moles of CO2

3 moles of C7H16 yields 3 * 7/1 = 21 moles of CO2

If 1 mole of CO2 occupies 22.4 L

21 moles of CO2 occupies 21 moles * 22.4 L/1 mole = 470.4 L of CO2

2) Number of moles in 202 L of H2 is obtained by;

1 mole of H2 occupies 22.4 L

x moles of  H2 occupies 202 L

x = 1 mole * 202 L/22.4 L =  9 moles of H2

From the reaction equation;

3 moles of H2 yields 2 moles of PH3

9 moles of H2 will yield 9 * 2/3 = 6 moles of PH3

Mass of 6 moles of PH3 = 6 moles of PH3 * 34 g/mol = 204 g of PH3

What is mass percentage % ?

Mass percentage is another name of w/w % or weight /weight % .

To determine the weight/weight % of a solution :

we divide the mass of solute by mass of the solution (solute and solvent together) and multiply by 100 to obtain per cent.

[tex]\dfrac{w}{w} \; \%\; =\;\rm\dfrac{mass \;of\; solute}{mass\; of \; solute\;+\;mass\;of\;solvent} \times 100[/tex]

Calculate the normal freezing point of a 0.7439 mol aqueous solution of c12h22o11 that has a density of 1.35g/ml. The molal freezing point depression constant of water is 1.86 kg/mole

Answers

Answer:

Freezing point of solution = -2.740C

Explanation:

The solution is attached herewith

The normal freezing point of an aqueous solution of C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ is -1.26°C

The freezing point depression can be calculated using the formula:

ΔTf = i* Kf*m ; where

i = van’t Hoff factorKf = freezing point depression constantm = molalility of solution

The molality of the aqueous solution of C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ is first determined using the formula:

molality = moles of solute/mass of water in kg

The mass of water is unknown but is determined from the mass of the solute and solution from the formula:

mass of solvent (water) = mass of solution - mass of solute

mass of solute = number of moles * molar mass

moles of solute in 1 L solution = 0.7439 moles

molar mass of solute, C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ = 342.0 g/mol

mass of solute = 0.7439 moles * 342.0 g

mass of solute = 254.41 g

mass of solution = density * volume

volume of solution = 1 L = 1000 mL

mass of solution = 1.35g/ml * 1000 mL

mass of solution = 1350 g

Therefore, mass of solvent (water) = 1350 g - 254.41 g

mass of solvent (water) = 1095.59 g

mass of solvent (water) in kg = 1095.59 g * 1 kg/ 1000 g

mass of solvent (water) in kg = 1.0956Kg

Thus, molality of solution = 0.7439 moles / 1.0956 Kg

molality of solution = 0.679 mol/kg

The freezing point depression, ΔTf, is then determined using the formula: ΔTf = i* Kf*m

Since C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ is a non-electrolyte; i for C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ = 1

Kf of water = 1.86 kg/mole

m = 0.679 mol/kg

ΔTf = 1 * 1.86 * 0.679

ΔTf = 1.26 °C

Therefore, freezing point depression, ΔTf = 1.26 °C

normal freezing point of solution = freezing point of water - freezing point depression

normal freezing point of solution = 0.0°C - 1.26°C

normal freezing point of solution = -1.26°C

Therefore, the normal freezing point of an aqueous solution of C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ is -1.26°C

Definition of molarity

Molar concentration or molarity is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution and indicates the number of moles of solute that are dissolved in a given volume.

The molarity of a solution is calculated by dividing the moles of solute by the volume of the solution:

[tex]molarity=\frac{number of moles}{volume} [/tex]
