How does the organizational structure of the passage support the author's
purpose?
Aren't you tired of players, parents, and coaches getting too upset over
kids' sporting events? Although children's sports should be about
learning, exercising, and having a good time, too many people make it
all about winning. For this reason, I think kids' sporting events should
not be scored. The focus would return to building skills and having fun.
It would also be good for players' self-esteem, because there would be
no losing team.
A. To inform the reader about the benefits of kids' sports, the author
uses a chronological structure that shares the most important
aspects of participating in Little League.
B. To persuade the reader that kids' sports should not be scored, the
author uses a problem-solution structure that explains how
eliminating scorekeeping would improve attitudes about youth
sports.
C. To persuade the reader that parents need to behave better at
sporting events, the author uses a chronological structure that
shows scoreless games have become more popular over time.
O D. To inform the reader about an important change to kids' sporting
events, the author uses a problem-solution structure that gives
reasons for focusing on having fun instead of on winning.

Back in the newsroom, he would write his stories in fountain pen (there were no typewriters) about how well the economy was doing. He always put a positive spin on the facts, although he tried to keep them at least plausible. By the time they were edited by his superiors in Pyongyang, however, any glimmer of the truth was gone. In preparation for a group discussion, read about when Miep Gies found Anne Frank’s diary. Then I walked into Mr. and Mrs. Frank's bedroom. On the floor, amidst the chaos of papers and books, my eye lit on the little red-orange checkered, cloth-bound diary that Anne had received from her father on her thirteenth birthday. I pointed it out to Elli. Obeying my gesture, she leaned down and picked it up for me, putting it into my hands. I remembered how happy Anne had been to receive this little book to write her private thoughts in. I knew how precious her diary was to Anne. My eyes scanned the rubble for more of Anne's writings, and I saw the old accounting books and many more writing papers that Elli and I had given to her when she had run out of pages in the checkered diary. Elli was still very scared, and looked to me for direction. I told Elli, "Help me pick up all Anne's writings." —Anne Frank Remembered, Miep Gies In a group discussion, a participant says, "I would never have picked up the diary. It’s not worth the risk.” How would you respond to share your viewpoint? Write three sentences.

Answers

1. The 'He' being referred to in the Declaration of Sentiments is the male gender- Man.

2. The comparison being made between Man and King George III is of the subjugation to which they have subjected women and the American colonists to respectively.

Explanation:

In the Declaration of Sentiments, the American women laid their complaints of how they have been relegated to the background and their civil and human rights, denied them by the male folks. They were not allowed to vote, or contribute in matters about the society, they were punished for mistakes which were tolerated when committed by the male gender. Her opinion was not to be heard in church, and she could be chastised by her husband.

Similarly, King George III subjected the colonists to several ill-treatments such as denying them their rights to fair hearing in the courts, excessive taxations, intimidation by the military, denying them trade with other nations, removing their charters, as well as many other acts of subjugation and injustice.

The pronoun "he" referred to in the Declaration of Sentiments simply means the male gender.

Sharks' Teeth
By Langston Carter

The day we found the sharks' teeth was foggy and cool. Moisture hung in the air so thick you could almost see it sparkling in the dim sunlight. There were days, early in the summer like this one, where it seemed there was more water in the air than in the bay. We had beached the boat and stepped out on the recently cleared spit of land. The ground had a light dusting of white sand over an under layer of dried black mud. It looked like a recently frosted chocolate cake, though the frosting was spread a bit thin for my taste. The ground was solid, but we knew from experience that it was full of fiddler crab holes, and would be underwater at the first super-high tide. Mysteriously, to us anyway, someone wanted to build a house there.

We often came to these spots to look for artifacts. Our beach, our summer home, had been a fishing camp for as long as anyone living could remember. The oldest stories told of travelers coming down to the edge of the sea, lining up to fill their wagon beds with salted fish to take back home. Old decaying cabins still lined the beach. Rotting nets, hung out to dry in the last century, decorated their weathered walls. Their broken faces spun stories in our minds. The fishermen who, tanned and wrinkled from sun and salt, hauled their nets full of splashing mullet in to cheers from the waiting crowds. The bounty of the sea lightened everyone's hearts, and the smell of roasting fish filled the damp air. Women fanned themselves from wagon seats. Children splashed in the shallow edges of the bay. It was a scene we had acted out as youngsters, building an imaginary bridge to a life we would never fully know.
